SA Pathology and My Health Record helps Dr Danny Byrne deliver continuity of care

05 June 2019

Dr Danny Byrne’s desire to help people drew him to medicine, and continues to motivate him to find better ways to deliver it.

Dr Byrne has been a general practitioner for over 30 years in South Australia, practising in Chandlers Hill, and amassing a list of lifelong patients and delivering care “from the cradle to the grave”. Many of his patients have grown older with him, which means he treats a large number of chronic conditions and others who are frail.

With SA Pathology now uploading reports of tests done in hospital to patients’ My Health Record, he was able to look up the INR and FBE of a 90yo man on warfarin who had a fall and was sent to Flinders Medical Centre Emergency Department. Which meant he did not have to chase results and enabled the ability to save these results to his practice clinical software.

“I have found it easier to see a new patient from NSW with all their data in their My Health Record than a new patient who lives 200 metres from Chandlers Hill,” Dr Byrne says. “If you don’t know how to use My Health Record in your own software,  click on a few buttons of a patient who has been in Flinders Medical Centre, or any public hospital, since May 27th and prepare to be amazed!”
