Dr Suppiah undertook specialist training at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, IMVS and the Royal Adelaide Hospital (1991 to 1995) in clinical paediatric haematology and oncology, clinical adult haematology (malignant and non-malignant) and laboratory/diagnostic haematology.
Prior to this, he trained in general paediatric medicine at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre (1987 to 1991).
Dr Suppiah was the Director of Haematology/Oncology and Staff Specialist in Haematology/Oncology, Mater Children’s Hospital, Brisbane (1996 to 2007), and a Locum Consultant Haematologist (1995 to 1996) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital/IMVS.
Since January 2007, he has been the Senior Consultant Paediatric Haematologist/Oncologist and Director of the Haemophilia Treatment Centre, Women’s and Children’s Hospital/Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service (CYWHS). In this capacity, he consults on clinical paediatric haematology and oncology, laboratory/diagnostic haematology and perinatal haematology (obstetric and neonatal). He is also a member on the CYWHS Transfusion Committee, as Haematologist.
Dr Suppiah is an associate investigator on all USA Children’s Oncology Group (COG) clinical trials open at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He is also the National Coordinator (on behalf of ANZCHOG) for INTERFANT-06 international multicentre study on infant acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
His areas of special interest include paediatric and neonatal haematology; diagnostic aspects of childhood leukaemias, disorders of haemostasis and coagulation in children, morphology, teaching and training.
