Dr Cohen received her MBchB at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 1980 and obtained her FRCPA in Anatomical Pathology in South Australia, after training at both the University of Cape Town and the IMVS (now SA Pathology) in Adelaide.
She has been employed as a Consultant Pathologist at SA Pathology’s Frome Rd Laboratory since 1991. Dr Cohen has extensive experience in reporting a wide range of anatomical pathology and cytological specimens including PAP smears, fluid cytology and fine needle aspiration specimens.
Her particular interest is diagnostic uropathology and uro-oncology. She is the principal pathologist for the uro-oncology service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and works closely with the urologists and medical oncologists to ensure a high quality service to the Urology Unit and public of South Australia.
In her role as urological pathologist, Dr Cohen has provided principal support for the radical prostatectomy service over many years, before and after the introduction of the da Vinci robot.
She leads a dedicated team of pathologists who cover the urology service at SA Pathology.
Dr Cohen also provides a consultation service for both internal and external urology pathology opinions. She is involved in teaching both pathology and urology registrars and medical students and has been an invited speaker at national conferences on urological topics.
She also makes herself available to work collaboratively with clinical colleagues on research projects.
