Dr. Yu completed her PhD degree on discovering the genetic defect of fragile X syndrome, which laid the foundation for her to pursue genetic pathology.  She completed her genetic pathology training in the Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the IMVS. She attained her FRCPA in 2002 and became one of the first genetic pathologists in this country.

In 2004, she was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of Genetic Medicine at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Her areas of interest include genomic imbalances and intellectual disability, new technologies in genetic diagnosis such as microarray, and non-invasive prenatal diagnosis.
